/// WORLD’S TOP EXPERT– CROSS BELT ANALYZER TECHNOLOGY!

TOM DESIGNED, BUILT & SHIPPED THE FOLLOWING ANALYZER:

/// Bulk Material Analyzer (BMA) – the world’s first PGNAA Analyzer!  A chute-type analyzer.

/// Cross Belt Analyzer (CBA) – the world’s first Cross Belt Analyzer.

/// ASYS EBA/FSA – ASYS EBA/FSA – the world’s first Digital Electronics that dramatically improved the performance of the Cross Belt Analyzer.

/// OMNI Analyzer – the world’s most successful and widely used PGNAA system – sold to Thermo Fisher.

OUR STORY…

1985 /// THE BMA

/// In 1985, as Chief Scientist at Gamma Metrics, Dr. Atwell’s role was to develop PGNAA technology. His team at Gamma Metrics invented the worlds’ first successful PGNAA system, the Bulk Material Analyzer (BMA). This analyzer was designed for the coal market to meet new sulfur regulations.

PHOENIX CEMENT TESTIMONIAL

/// In 1986, the world’s first Cement Analyzer was installed by Tom Gibbons, at Phoenix Cement.

“ I was the pioneer that installed the first PGNAA Analyzer in the cement market. It took years of R&D to get it right, but Dr. Tom Atwell delivered. I ended up purchasing many systems from Tom.

For the past 25 years, I have tracked all of the major advances in PGNAA technology, and, in my opinion, Tom is responsible for all of the major innovations – like the Cross Belt Analyzer, or electronics that enabled the ability to measure magnesium. He continues this tradition with the new APEX Air and APEX line of analyzers.

1986 /// THE CROSS BELT ANALYZER (CBA)

/// In 1985, Dr. Atwell invented the Cross Belt Analyzer. This was a breakthrough in terms of ease-of-installation, cost of installation, reduced size, and performance.

/// The Early CBA systems were not accurate at alkali, mg.

/// Gamma Metrics was purchased by Thermo Fisher.

/// Dr. Atwell left Thermo Fischer, and formed ASYS.

1998-2002 /// Dr. Atwell designed & built the ASYS FSA and EBA

/// In 1998, Dr. Atwell formed ASYS, where he designed the FSA and EBA systems.

/// These systems featured the worlds’ first digital electronics for PGNAA.

/// Thanks to the innovations in the electronics, these systems were the first in the world to deliver accurate measurements of Mg and alkali.

/// The ASYS analyzers delivered outstanding performance and lasted for years.

/// These system were very reliable, stable, and accurate. Many systems are still running today.

/// Now (2017-2018), significant advances in the electronics and software can further improve system performance.

2005 /// Dr. Atwell designed the OMNI Analyzer

/// Dr. Atwell designed the OMNI Analyzer.

/// The original name was the ASYS Beltstar.

/// The first Omni system ran extremely well – right from the start.

/// Recently, Mitsubishi upgraded its OMNI electronics, using XRSciences’ APEX upgrade.

/// The Mitsubishi system is still running 24×7…..and running…… and running……

/// The OMNI Analyzer delivered good performance on alkali and Mg.

/// Many analyzers still do not deliver high performance on alkali and Mg.

2006 /// Thermo Fisher Purchased the OMNI Analyzer

/// Thermo purchased the OMNI Analyzer and made it their Flagship PGNAA Product.

/// Approximately 200 systems were sold – in just 2 years.

/// The OMNI Analyzer became the most successful PGNAA system to-date – with hundreds of installations.

2011 /// Colin & Tom launched XRSciences

/// Tom joined forces with Colin Charette to create new and innovative products for the cement market.

/// With funding from the National Science Foundation, they developed a PGNAA-based Clinker Analyzer.

/// In 2012, based on extensive customer visits and market discussions, XRSciences pivoted to the design and construction of an Air Slide Analyzer.

2016 /// XRSciences APEX Analyzer

/// AFTER 7 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT, DR. ATWELL HAS DELIVERED THE NEXT GENERATION ANALYZERS…
THE XRSciences APEX ANALYZER

“ Testing shows that the APEX system delivers the highest performance of any analyzer I have designed. ”

Dr. Atwell

Chief Technology Officer

XRSciences

/// XRSciences installs first APEX ANALYZER

/// The APEX Analyzer was designed from the ground up to deliver the highest performance possible. The design included the electronics, software, system design, and the nucleonics.

/// The biggest innovation is in the new electronics, which took over 40,000 man-hours to develop. The electronics are two generations beyond the most advanced electronics that had been developed previously.

/// The new electronics is designed to be very stable, accurate, and repeatable. These electronics are designed to run for months, or even years, with no adjustments.

/// Testing shows that the APEX analyzer delivered the highest performance of any analyzer developed by Dr. Atwell – and it can run for 6+ years without source replenishment!

2017 /// XRSciences APEX LITE Analyzer

/// 2017 – XRSciences Designs APEX “Lite” ANALYZER and APEX Upgrade Package

/// Based on customer feedback, Dr. Atwell redesigned the APEX analyzer to be smaller and lighter, thereby reducing system installation and operational costs . The system still uses the APEX design, software, and electronics – and still delivers outstanding performance, now at the lowest operational cost.

/// The new APEX electronics used in the APEX “Lite” system is designed to be very stable, accurate and repeatable. The electronics are designed to run for months or even years with few if any adjustments.

/// The APEX Electronics upgrade – using the new APEX software and electronics – was introduced in 2017.

/// The upgraded electronics are guaranteed to improve the system performance of any upgraded analyzer, including CBX, CBGN, EBA, FSA and other competitive systems.

2018 /// XRSciences APEX AIR Analyzer

/// Dr. Atwell introduces the APEX Air – the world’s first Air Slide Analyzer.

/// APEX Air is the first PGNAA-based analyzer in the world to measure 100% of the material in an Air Slide.

/// It is designed for continuous analzyis on fully-fluidized, powdered raw meal, kiln feed, or cement.

/// It is designed to deliver accurate and repeatable measurements that do not drift, thereby ensuring an accurate view of the manufacturing process – and it can optimize the manufacturing process.

/// The system uses PGNAA to provide direct measurements. The technology has proven to be highly accurate.

/// The system is not impacted by sampling bias, layering bias, operator bias, or segregation issues.

/// 2018 – XRSciences celebrates 10th year in operation.
